My favorite part of this camping trip was finding this beach near the old military housing, on the Northwest coast of the island. Nick read, I chased a goose, and then I said “to hell with sensibility” and jumped in the water. He waded in later, but I fully submerged myself in the invasively-salty water. Certainly not the worst way to end a trip.
Yesterday was by far my favorite birthday yet. I don’t really like birthdays, and I know a lot of people feel the same. I did nothing to warrant a bunch of attention, and the pressure feels a bit yucky. Usually I just ignore the day and hope nobody notices.
Last night was really great though, I feel very content and supported, but mostly I feel happy to be surrounded by such wonderful friends. I know the best people, really. I love my friends with an appreciation I can’t even begin to explain, but just know that it gives me all of the feelings.
My pals are pretty funny, and know me pretty well, evidenced by the really zany things they brought.
Carlos got me this rare Pop’s tank top, which is not only the 3rd item of Pop’s clothing I own, but made me about pee my pants with excitement when I put it on.
Meesha got me Nutella and Diet Coke, which are so far beyond “vices” that I think we can just call them “the whole of my diet”. She also made buttons with my face on them that say “Internet Queen.”
Vic & Helen really nailed it with CANDY which is already halfway consumed because again, they were spot-on about my interests.
Sarah got me these super cutesy chopstick holders, which double as precious little ceramic minis. Sarah went with me to that Giants/Diamondbacks game on Monday, and she’ll surely be around all of the time.
Nick, my outdoor adventure partner-in-crime, pulled a Mary Poppins and dug this DOGWHALE out of his bag for me. So weird, combines my favorite interests of animals and water and all things wood-textured.
Thanks to everyone who came through last night. Extra thanks to y’all who brought dogs. Of course as soon as animals entered the bar I just ignored every human for a bit but you probably expected as much. I equate my friends as my family and I’m glad to say I chose the right ones this time!
