Despite the fact that the specific leaders for each DSM revision are different people, those leaders are all of the same generation (in their 70s or more now). Their second-in-command has been the same person for each revision. And the majority of leaders of DSM task force subgroups have not changed since DSM-III in 1980 to IV to 5. The only thing that’s changed is their ages: they were 30 or 40 somethings then; they are 60 or 70 somethings now.

I was told by the head of DSM-IV, in this blogspace, that science was a low priority, and the results of science could be and would be ignored if they conflicted with whatever the DSM leadership wanted to do, on “pragmatic” grounds, in their judgment of what is best for patients and for the profession.
Deeply troubling, but unsurprising, except from a Psychology Today article. Woe is thee who would believe that something as serious and impactful as mental health could be free of arbitrary persuasions by old men.

It baffles me when females say they just “don’t get along with other girls.” Frustrations should be based on actions by the individual, regardless of demographic. Some of the most fulfilling and comfortable relationships I have are with other females, and you can pry my same-sex friendships from my cold, dead hands.

Some thoughts:
- I got an email a while back from a guy who wanted to interview me for a Slate article about my experiences with my (Photoshopped, unbeknownst to him) pair of Google Glass.
-My internet friend Darth does all of my Photoshop work, all credit should be directed to his highness.
-I want to jump in front of people wearing Glass and yell “Glass, take a photo!” They’ll remember me forever for many reasons.
-I had a crush on a dude in my 10th grade biology class, in Iowa. I saw him on Valencia a couple weeks ago. I ran into him on the internet today. How absurd. Will I keep running into the same set of ~1,000 people for the rest of my existence?
-Juice cleanses. I mean, seriously. I’d rather eat just grains & vegetables (read: no pastries D: ) for a week than drink cayenne pepper once to balance out my inner equilibrium or whatever. Juice is cool and great and all but after 4.5 days without a real meal pre- and post-wisdom teeth, I’m firmly convinced against doing liquid cleanses. I was cranky. Oh, and kale tastes gross, stop lying to yourselves.
